Current Projects - Cooper Technica Chicago

David Cooper, President

David Cooper founded Cooper Technica, Inc. after a fellow driver on the vintage race circuit complimented parts that Cooper had fabricated for his own Porsche 356. The owner asked Cooper to fabricate replacement parts for his Bugatti Type 35B. Word spread and soon Cooper was in the business of restoring vintage cars. He established the Chicago workshop in 1989. Cooper then honed his restoration skills during an eleven-year apprenticeship with master craftsman, engineer and inventor Leonard Morrison (1935-2002).

Prior to founding Cooper Technica, Cooper was vice-president of a company that manufactured and sold custom industrial sewing equipment in the U.S. and abroad. In addition to his hands-on involvement with prototype design, fabrication, and application in the field, Cooper's decade of corporate experience provided a valuable grounding in project management, subcontracting, marketing, sales and finance.

In his spare time, Cooper turns to other interests including cycling, black-and-white photography, film, jazz and the history of pre-WWII Europe. Cooper developed his enthusiasm for in-depth research while studying political philosophy and literature at the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago.
